I love seeing his reaction to the first song!! This is seriously an amazing way to experience pop, through the eyes of someone new coming in with fresh ears.

I took my kid to see Justin Beiber a few years ago, and in the middle of hos show, he played a half dozen songs alone on guitar. I wish some of the biggest names in pop would start a trend and put out full albums featuring a band (at most) the size of maybe a disco band (at least) a single instrument and combine good pop voices with raw instrumentation. Imagine Ariana Grande, a mic, and a piano playing for 42-45 minutes.

First and last songs are good, the rest I cannot care less.

I would love to hear some real musicianship again. I know there's talented artists out there but IDK if it's the record labels or the autotuning or production of these songs. But they all sound alike to me. Boring and pedantic.

You could randomly interchange the backing tracks between most of these songs and nobody would know the difference.....or care.

Most of them sounded the same old same old variation on a thousand other forgettable songs. A few, maybe four, were interesting.

Number 10 gave me hope for the future haha sounds Lo-Fi/Pop and I could deal with that.

I have no affection for anything with Beiber's name on it. Otherwise I didn't really hate anything here, a few decent songs too plus the Billie Eilish cut that I really like.

I think music makers are starting to wake up to how much influence youtube channels have on what becomes popular. Back in the day, artists would hope to get radio play, now reaction videos and influencers are able to turn viewers on to what they've heard. They should consider that when they're blocking and de-monitizing.

100% agree that music has been trending in a better direction IMO. Right now there’s a lot of stuff that’s not super creative but still good and I think that opens up the avenues for real innovation in songwriting to come through

When I was a teen, I swore I'd never been "old" like my parents, not knowing any current music. And I did pretty well up until my 30s maybe 40s. 52 now and I just... don't care. I can't stand most of this stuff. God bless you, Rick! I guess I'm just old for real! What I can't take is the electronic-y sounding "singing".

in Driver’s License, is that sharp 4 not just a leading tone? sounds like the note she sings/the note you isolated on the guitar was an A natural (ti in the key of B flat) rather than E natural (fi in the key of B flat). if i’m missing something please let me know!!

A lot of crap, fake voices, boring melodies and very basic arrangements. Most sound the same. The only interesting title is the N°1

Mr. Beato, Dude, I have been listening to Hiatus Kaiyote this is an excellent group. Nai Palm plays excellent guitar and vocals. The entire band is super. This is a present from me to you incase you haven't heard them. Songs: Molasses, Breathing Underwater etc, Love your site and music.

watching your videos for a while, i think i figured out why your record label didn't do well. you know the difference between crap music and good music, while the top ten proves most of america doesn't. pretty much you have too good of taste.

that #1 song, the vocal melody sounds way too familiar, especially over that sharp iv... give me a while i'll think of what it's similar to. im not saying plagiarism just the sense of familiarity helps it to strike a chord that another song had created.

I didn't find Justin Bieber's song that cool or wierd, actually as I repeat it in my head it throws me right to Shook Me All Night Long. edit: Ariana Grande's one you could pretty casually add a funky bass line to. I don't remember that song with a guitar - basically a campfire a song . That Billie Eilish one was cool. The other JB and SM one I found myself grooving to immediately, uncontrolable. Didn't care much for the others but I'll probably play around with the last one.

Hi Rick, I just had a great idea. Wouldn't it be cool to get the multitrack tapes of people like Bob Dylan Neil Young and even though it occurred before multi-tracking Billie Holiday. The reason I say that I would love to hear what their vocals put through auto-tune would sound like! How great would that be?

Half of the songs are not too bad, musically speaking. But the vocals put me off 90% of the time. Most of these singers all have the same style, same melodic lines, same quirks. So so boring and unpleasant to my ear.
