Linus and his boss were actually both correct when it comes to retail it’s just that Linus’s plan is not a retail business per se is more of a wholesale or blowout type company where you buy up all the inventory and sell it for as much as you can get and not worry about your turn time. A normal retailer works off of turns. This is a 30 day period where at the end of the 30 days you have to pay back or pay for your product line. This is what a retailer does. The idea is to use a short term investment or grace period to turn as much product as possible paying for your initial investment and collecting pure profit with no out of pocket. So both Linus and his x boss were on the same page just not the same format. Wholesale is the most risky format but has the biggest return. Retail turns is the less risky with more likely predictable profit margins. I can see why they both had the disagreement. One sees boxes at the end of the 30 days and panics. The other just sees potential for a big payday.

  7. bumweaselsr

Two comments. NCIX started out by using cash from investment immigrants, supplying them with false jobs etc. for Canadian immigration, to undercut the competition by selling products under cost. The other Chinese owned tech hardware companies in the lower mainland knew this and were unable to compete. This is what I heard from the owners of the other companies and others in the community rumor mill. I personally refused to purchase anything form NCIX and dealt with those I developed a good honest relationship with. Second, Linus' non-compete clause will not hold water if the non-compete prevents one from working in an area of their expertise. Example, an civil engineer leaves a firm, signs a non-compete letter that forbids any jobs in the civil engineering. So do they work at McDonalds now? The courts stuck this down if the non-compete restricts the individual from using their area of expertise to generate income. Otherwise, entertaining clip and thank God NCIX is gone, the owner was just another tǎo yàn person.

My story isn't as cool, but I worked at a home decore retail store in Canada called Bouclair Home. I worked there for like 6 or 7 months and I found a way better job that was full time and also paid commission. I left and I think 2ish weeks into my new job Bouclair closed down. Haha. Destroyed.

NCIX was the worst computer company you can buy anything at. The one that was near by was the worst and racist. They literally said they won't hire any blacks, browns or whites. Only asian people allowed to work there. I told NCIX head office and they didn't care. They also screwed up my friends computer where he had to get the police involved saying he got scammed and showed them his receipt and the computer he got was nothing like what he asked for. Friend finally got his money and went near by to Canada Computers who gave me the computer he wanted for a few hundred dollars less. So glad they went out of business when they did.

Linus, you are PERFECTLY placed to start your own computer component selling company to compete with NCIX or here in the UK we have Overclockers and Scan. Everyone trusts you and values your advice, and selling the right components. You would need to have some gimmick like tying up your advice and making obvious compatibility charts or shopping basket compatibility but would be great I would buy from you for sure. Because you are on the customer's side and I know I will get a fair deal and not be screwed over. That is the main thing, you prove again and gain you are a man of quality with a good heart and can be trusted.
